Match dayGetting the best picture on a big night
Sunday at one o'clock in football season is the hardest thing any streaming service does. Half the country wants live video at the same moment, and every link in the chain gets tested at once: our servers, your internet provider, your router and whatever is between the router and the television. Four habits make the difference, and three of them are at your end.
Run a cable to the television
This is the single most effective thing you can do, and it is not close. Televisions have the worst Wi-Fi radios in the house because the antenna sits behind a large metal panel, which is exactly the wrong place for it. An Ethernet cable, or a pair of powerline adapters if a cable is impossible, solves more buffering complaints than every other fix put together.
Raise the buffer before kickoff, not during
Every decent player app exposes a buffer setting. Raising it one step costs you a fraction of a second of delay and buys a picture that holds through the moments when the network is busiest. Nobody has ever noticed half a second. Everybody notices a freeze on a touchdown.
Choose Full HD deliberately
If your connection is marginal, pick the Full HD feed rather than the 4K one. On a television more than two meters away the difference is close to invisible, and the stability gain is not. You can always switch back on a quiet Tuesday.
Know where the backup feed is
On a big event there are usually several feeds for the same game. If one is struggling, the answer is to switch rather than to wait. Find them before kickoff so you are not scrolling while the kick-off happens. If you cannot find them, message us during the game and we will tell you which one is holding.
What we do not claim
We are a service provider. We do not hold broadcasting rights, we do not originate any signal, and we have no affiliation with the NFL, the NBA, MLB, the NHL, the NCAA or any network named on this page. Those names describe what our customers look for. What you do with the service is governed by the laws where you live, and our terms set that out plainly.
